RACE RECAP
Ryan Blaney put on a comeback clinic at Phoenix Raceway, overcoming two separate trips to the rear of the field to win the Straight Talk Wireless 500 and complete a Team Penske weekend sweep. Christopher Bell led a race-high 176 of 312 laps in the No. 20 Toyota and won both stages, dominating from start to finish — but a late caution with 12 laps remaining reshuffled the deck.
Blaney's crew chief Jonathan Hassler made the gutsy call to pit for fresh tires under the caution, restarting fourth with 10 laps to go. Blaney carved through Ty Gibbs, Denny Hamlin, and Kyle Larson on the restart and pulled away over the final circuits to claim his 18th career victory and second at Phoenix. The win vaulted him to second in the championship standings, 60 points behind Tyler Reddick, whose historic three-race winning streak ended with an eighth-place finish.
The race was a wreck-fest — 12 cautions tied the track record for yellow flags at Phoenix. Joey Logano led 73 laps from the pole and dominated the early going before getting collected in a multi-car crash with 59 laps remaining. Austin Cindric, Daniel Suarez, Josh Berry, and Anthony Alfredo were all eliminated in separate incidents. Connor Zilisch's suspension gave out after 281 laps, ending a quiet day early.
Bubba Wallace was the sleeper of the race, charging from 28th on the grid to sixth with a clean, patient drive through the carnage. Erik Jones delivered another top-10 from 32nd on the grid, while Todd Gilliland came from 30th to 12th — both outstanding value plays on low salaries.
