RACE RECAP

Ryan Blaney put on a comeback clinic at Phoenix Raceway, overcoming two separate trips to the rear of the field to win the Straight Talk Wireless 500 and complete a Team Penske weekend sweep. Christopher Bell led a race-high 176 of 312 laps in the No. 20 Toyota and won both stages, dominating from start to finish — but a late caution with 12 laps remaining reshuffled the deck.

Blaney's crew chief Jonathan Hassler made the gutsy call to pit for fresh tires under the caution, restarting fourth with 10 laps to go. Blaney carved through Ty Gibbs, Denny Hamlin, and Kyle Larson on the restart and pulled away over the final circuits to claim his 18th career victory and second at Phoenix. The win vaulted him to second in the championship standings, 60 points behind Tyler Reddick, whose historic three-race winning streak ended with an eighth-place finish.

The race was a wreck-fest — 12 cautions tied the track record for yellow flags at Phoenix. Joey Logano led 73 laps from the pole and dominated the early going before getting collected in a multi-car crash with 59 laps remaining. Austin Cindric, Daniel Suarez, Josh Berry, and Anthony Alfredo were all eliminated in separate incidents. Connor Zilisch's suspension gave out after 281 laps, ending a quiet day early.

Bubba Wallace was the sleeper of the race, charging from 28th on the grid to sixth with a clean, patient drive through the carnage. Erik Jones delivered another top-10 from 32nd on the grid, while Todd Gilliland came from 30th to 12th — both outstanding value plays on low salaries.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

01Ryan Blaney overcame two pit penalties (pitting outside his box) to win from 5th on the grid. His crew took tires under a late caution with 12 to go — the restart gamble that won the race.
02Christopher Bell led 176 of 312 laps and won both stages but finished second, 0.399 seconds back. Bell earned 77.6 fantasy points — the highest in the field despite not winning.
03The 12 cautions tied the Phoenix Cup Series track record for yellow flags. Joey Logano led 73 laps from pole before a wreck ended his day on Lap 253.
04Tyler Reddick's three-race winning streak to start 2026 ended with a P8 finish. He still leads the championship by 60 points over Blaney.
05Bubba Wallace (P6 from 28th start), Erik Jones (P10 from 32nd), and Todd Gilliland (P12 from 30th) were the biggest movers — all elite value plays on cheap salaries.
06Ty Gibbs led the race with 10 laps to go but faded to fourth as Blaney charged on fresh tires. His 12 laps led and P3 Stage 1 finish pushed him to 43.2 fantasy points.
07Six drivers were eliminated by crashes: Logano (Lap 253), Berry (253), Cindric (216), Suarez (254), Alfredo (217), and Gragson (155). Phoenix was a survival race.
08Bell's 176 laps led generated 17.6 bonus points — the difference between a solid day and a dominant fantasy performance despite finishing second.
