RACE RECAP

Denny Hamlin reminded everyone why Las Vegas Motor Speedway has been his personal playground. Starting second alongside pole-sitter Christopher Bell, Hamlin seized control early and never relinquished his grip on the No. 11 FedEx Toyota, leading 134 of 267 laps — more than half the race — to win the Pennzoil 400 in commanding fashion. It was a clinic in intermediate-track dominance: long-run speed, clean pit stops, and the kind of restarts that separate good drivers from great ones.

Four drivers led 20-plus laps — Hamlin (134), Kyle Larson (62), Christopher Bell (31), and William Byron (26) — but none could sustain a challenge when it mattered. Larson stalked Hamlin through the middle stages and led 62 laps of his own, but faded to seventh by the checkered flag as his Hendrick Chevrolet lost grip on the long runs. Bell commanded the opening stage from the pole, winning Stage 1, but couldn't match Hamlin's pace once clean air swung the No. 11's way. Byron won Stage 2 and finished third — a strong day — but never seriously threatened for the win.

The real story was how clean the race ran. All 36 cars finished under power. No Big One. No dramatic last-lap chaos. Just Hamlin doing what Hamlin does at 1.5-mile tracks: controlling the tempo, managing tires, and pulling away when it counted. He added the fastest lap of the race to his ledger — the cherry on top of a dominant afternoon in the desert.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

01Denny Hamlin led 134 of 267 laps and posted the fastest lap of the race, earning 73.4 fantasy points — the highest single-race score of the 2026 season so far. His $14 salary returned 5.24 pts/$ — elite value for a premium pick.
02Christopher Bell won Stage 1 from the pole and finished 4th with 60.1 fantasy points, but couldn't match Hamlin's long-run speed. Bell led 31 laps and collected 18 stage points — a strong day despite losing the lead.
03Kyle Larson led 62 laps — second only to Hamlin — but faded to 7th as his Chevrolet lost grip in the final stage. His 59.2 fantasy points were boosted by laps-led bonuses (6.2 pts) and 18 stage points.
04William Byron won Stage 2 and finished 3rd, scoring 57.6 points on a $14 salary. Byron's consistency at intermediates continues — he's quietly building a case as the best mile-and-a-half racer in the field.
05All 36 cars finished the race running — no crashes, no mechanical failures, no drama. This was one of the cleanest Pennzoil 400s in recent memory.
06Chase Elliott was the best place-differential play: started 15th, finished 2nd, and scored 46 fantasy points at $12 salary. His +13 positions gained made him the comeback story of the afternoon.
07Austin Dillon ($5) was the fantasy steal: P12 from 11th with 29 points for a 5.80 pts/$ return. The best value play in the field at minimum-tier pricing.
08The four drivers who led 20+ laps (Hamlin, Larson, Bell, Byron) combined for 253 of 267 laps led — 94.8% of the race was controlled by just four cars.
